Introduction

The Higher National Diploma in Quantity Surveying is a comprehensive, industry-focused programme accredited by the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission (TVEC), leading to qualifications at both NVQ Level 5 and NVQ Level 6. This competency-based curriculum equips students with the essential technical knowledge and practical skills required to manage costs and contracts in the construction industry. From accurate measurement and estimating to complex procurement strategies and financial valuations, our students learn to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget. With a strong emphasis on real-world application through projects, site visits, and software training, graduates are prepared to become highly sought-after professionals in a dynamic global industry. Diploma holders are well-positioned to pursue further studies towards a Bachelor’s degree.

Program Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the National Diploma in Quantity Surveying, graduates will be able to:

Demonstrate proficiency in measuring building and civil engineering works using national and international standard methods (SLS 573, CESMM).

Prepare accurate estimates, bids, and cost plans for construction projects at various design stages.

Apply principles of contract law and standard forms of contract (e.g., CIDA/SBD, FIDIC) to administer construction projects.

Manage procurement and tendering processes in compliance with national guidelines and best practices.

Perform interim and final valuations, manage variations, and prepare payment certificates for construction projects.

Utilize construction technology and IT tools, including CAD and measurement software, to enhance productivity.

Exhibit strong employability skills in workplace communication, information management, problem-solving, and leadership.

Pursue diverse career paths in consulting firms, contracting organizations, client bodies, or as entrepreneurial quantity surveyors.

Entry Requirements

Prerequisites for NVQ Level 5 qualification in Quantity Surveying 

  • NVQ 4 in Quantity Surveying Assistant
  • Preference will be given to those with minimum of 1 year experience in relevant field

OR

  • Have a minimum of three Simple (S) passes at the General Certificate of Examinations (Advanced Level – local) from the Physical science stream in one sitting AND pass English Language at General Certificate of Examinations (Ordinary Level – local)
  • Have a minimum of three Simple (S) passes at the General Certificate of Examinations (Advanced Level – local) from the Biological science / Commerce stream/ Technology stream (Engineering Technology) in one sitting AND pass Mathematics and English Language at General Certificate of Examinations (Ordinary Level – local).
